Colin Jost Reacts: Zoe Saldaña Overtakes Scarlett Johansson as Box Office Queen

Colin Jost had a strong reaction to Zoe Saldaña dethroning his wife, Scarlett Johansson, as the box office queen. On the January 17 episode of Saturday Night Live, Jost, 43, showed a bar graph indicating Saldana’s gross movie revenue at $15.5B and Johansson’s at $15.4 during Weekend Update . “Zoe Saldaña, who stars in the new Avatar movie, has surpassed Scarlett Johansson to become the highest-grossing actress of all time,” the comedian began. “OK, well let’s see what happens when you include the box office from Scarlett’s husband’s movies.” With that, the sound of a slide whistle played as Johannson’s total reduced to $15.1B. “It went down?!” Jost responded incredulously. It’s unclear if he knew what the punchline was going to be ahead of time, but he certainly seemed to laugh as though it was a surprise. Star previously reported that Saldaña, who is also part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside Johansson, is now the highest-grossing actress of all time with a total of four movies grossing more than $2 billion globally. Between the Avatar and Marvel franchises as well has her part in three of the Star Trek movies, the Oscar winner, 47, has become a massive box office draw. Still, Johansson was a difficult actress to beat in this category. Not only has she been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe longer, but she recently joined the Jurassic Park franchise with Jurassic World: Rebirth. The two women are roughly neck-and-neck in this category — assuming you don’t factor in Jost’s numbers.
