China-Canada Canola & Peas Tariffs Agreement: Moe to Announce Details

Premier Scott Moe has returned from China where he joined Prime Minister Mark Carney to secure a trade deal. In a news release Monday morning, the province says a preliminary agreement has been reached between the two countries to remove all tariffs from canola meal and peas. In addition, tariffs on canola seed are expected to be reduced to 15 per cent. Moe will be joined by provincial ministers of agriculture and trade and export development across Canada, alongside representatives from industry stakeholder groups for a news conference on the agreement at 1 p.m. CT Tuesday at the University of Saskatchewan. CBC News will be live streaming the event. "This progress also demonstrates the importance of foreign trade missions and shows what can be achieved when the federal and provincial governments and our export industries work together to strengthen our trade relationships," Moe said in the news release. The changes within the Canada-China agreement are expected to take effect by March 1.
