Bawumia Campaign Demands Proof from Kennedy Agyapong on Allegations

The Bawumia Campaign has described recent allegations by Kennedy Agyapong against former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as false and deeply troubling, warning that such claims risk undermining unity within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of its presidential primaries. In a statement dated January 20, the campaign expressed “grave concern” over a video circulating in which Mr Agyapong is seen accusing Dr Bawumia of making comments about the health of the late Professor Albert Adu Boahen and of influencing a decision not to contest the 1996 NPP presidential primaries. According to the campaign, the allegations are entirely unfounded. “For absolute clarity, Dr Bawumia has never made the statements that have been attributed to him,” the statement said, describing the claims as “wrongful attributions” that misrepresent the former Vice President’s record and character. The campaign also criticised Mr Agyapong for labelling Dr Bawumia a liar and unfit for leadership, describing the remarks as unnecessary personal attacks. It challenged the former Assin Central MP to substantiate his claims. “We ask Hon. Kennedy Agyapong to produce the video or audio evidence without further delay if he stands by this baseless attack,” the statement said. Signed by Nana Akomeah, Chairman of Campaign Communications, the statement urged party members to return to a more civil and disciplined political discourse. “In our political discourse, accuracy matters. Words also matter,” it noted, adding that leaders must conduct themselves with “truthfulness, decorum, and restraint at all times”.
