Introducing the Awake Son Mai Frosted Leaf Royal Red Watch

Founded in 2019 by Lilian Thibault, Awake is a young French brand built on the idea that time can be experienced more consciously, through sustainability, creativity, and cultural preservation. In line with this approach, Awake seeks to revive and modernise ancestral crafts from around the world. In 2024, Awake introduced the Son Mai collection, its first permanent line, with dials handcrafted in Vietnam using traditional lacquer techniques. The following year, the Frosted Leaf editions in blue, green, and brown were added. Now, Awake expands the series with the Frosted Leaf Royal Red, a 100-piece limited edition that elevates its artistry. The 39mm recycled stainless steel case maintains the clean proportions of all Son Mai models and the recent Frosted Leaf line, with alternating polished and satin finishes, curved lugs, and a height of 11.8mm (10.9mm without crystal). It features sapphire crystals on both sides and is water-resistant to 50m. Inspired by Asian ritual objects and the harmony of red and gold, the watch reinterprets Vietnamese Son Mai lacquerware using a new variant of the Frosted Leaf process. For the first time, the final layer of the dial is composed of pure silver leaf tinted with copper pigments, reversing the traditional sequence to let light interact directly with the material. The result is an intense, organic texture where deep reds and metallic warmth merge in a modern expression of life, wisdom, and time. Applied indices and hands are made from Super-LumiNova base and then coated with polished steel, to create the backlit effect when in the dark. The La Joux-Perret G101 automatic movement provides 68 hours of power reserve. It features a custom tungsten rotor with brushed and micro-beaded finishes, engraved with the collection’s details.
