A$AP Rocky: Beef on 'Stole Ya Flow' Fuels His Energy

Fcukers – L.U.C.K.Y Looking at the fast rise of New York band Fcukers over the last two and a half years, it’s hard to believe that they haven’t dropped an album yet. But fans can finally expect Ö at the end of March. To tide everyone over until then, they’ve given us a Fcukers classic in the form of L.U.C.KY, a catchy club banger with Shanny Wise’s signature breathy vocals and fuzzy electro synth stabs. Though the track’s in line with what we’ve come to expect from the duo, I’m looking forward to hearing Ö, especially after Jackson hinted at a new sound for the band in an interview with Zane Lowe last week. TL BXKS – SING4ME BXKS has been outside. The UK rapper’s new project Flashing Lights is fuelled with club-considerate production which plucks from gqom, afrobeats, bouyon and grime. On SING4ME, BXKS nonchalantly raps like she’s eyeing up the dancefloor from behind the velvet rope of the VIP section. The track South Africa’s rhythmic swing, and so it was only right she made the trip to JoBurg to film the video. DR A$AP Rocky – Stole Ya Flow Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us was so massive that it sort of eclipsed the anti-Drake pile-on in the weeks leading up to it. Led by Metro Boomin and Kendrick, Rick Ross, Ye, The Weekend and A$AP Rocky joined the group mission to try and humiliate Drizzy. On the New York Times’ Popcast, Rocky seemed to admit that Stole Ya Flow is about Drake, before retracting a little bit and saying it’s ​“for whoever feels like it’s about them”. Whatever the case, Rocky sounds good when he’s resentful, and the Stole Ya Flow hook is one of the punchiest moments on his meandering new album Don’t Be Dumb. After an onslaught of malicious rage synths, the beat gives way to ominous instrumentation courtesy of Danny Elfman. So now Drake also has to worry about the man who scored The Nightmare Before Christmas. DR Skrillex – Yo Yan Skrillex’s name is synonymous with big fat filthy drops, so you might be disappointed to learn that his new EP Kora is a technically ambient record. But like Lorenzo’s Senni’s pointillist trance formula (which is essentially a drumless, arty interpretation of the euphoric genre), Yo Yan has the heft of a club banger despite there being no actual beat. There are speaker-blowing bass thuds, human voices harmonising with scratched metal synths and Spanish guitar licks cushioned by gentle strings. It’s basically Skrillex showing off his insane sound design. DR
