The 3.0 update introduces several new features to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Players can now craft from home storage and perform a precise one-tile hop-and-sidestep movement. Previously exclusive Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp items are now available. Additionally, players can place items on the pier, and Pascal is guaranteed to give a pearl daily.
Just like with the ACNH 2.0 Update, IGN's Animal Crossing experts knew there were at least a few unannounced features hidden in the 3.0 update. Below is what we've discovered so far during our playtime and by examining the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 3.0 patch notes. If you've found something cool, be sure to share it in the comments. Have fun!
A Little Hop and Sidestep
If you press L, your character straightens up and gives a little hop! If you move while holding L, you'll move perfectly one tile at a time in the direction you input. This only works for up, down, left, and right. If there's not one complete open block of space in the direction you want to move, your character will make a face with a sad sound.
This new sort of movement can be helpful for getting the perfect angle on hitting a rock or for item placement outdoors. You can move with L while holding tools! And best of all, this ability is available right from the start of the game!
Craft from Home Storage
Crafting has entered a new era! This wasn't directly mentioned in the presentation, but you can now craft and cook items using anything in your home storage. If you haven't touched a crafting table since the 3.0 update, you'll receive a notice about this. It also states that "materials and ingredients in your pockets will be used first before those in your home storage."
Note that your crafting station or stove do not need to be in your home for this to work, but as noted in the alert message, you do have to craft while still on your island. This is a great addition in conjunction with bulk crafting!
Everyone Gets Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Items
Miss out on Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp? While that game isn't the same as it used to be, you can at least now get the items that were once only available to player who linked their accounts from New Horizons to Pocket Camp in the Nook Shopping terminal and app! You'll find them in the Promotions section. This includes...
Pocket Camp phone case (2,000 bells)
Brake Tapper (2,700 bells)
Campsite sign (2,500 bells)
Fortune-cookie cart (2,600 bells)
Market Place decoration (3,200 bells)
OK Motors sign (3,000 bells)
Pocket modern camper (1,500 bells)
Pocket vintage camper (1,500 bells)
OK Motors cap (770 bells)
Camper tee (840 bells)
OK Motors jacket (840 bells)
Items on the Pier
We could technically always place items on the pier, but now we have a reason to thanks to the DIY Requests donation box!! We placed a Mini DIY Workbench and a Compact Kitchen to help with crafting DIY Requests, a Storage Cabinet to put things away, and one of the Mario Warp Pipes to connect to Nook's Cranny. Try it yourself!
Other Neat Surprises
Here are a few other rapid-fire surprise updates we spotted in the 3.0 patch notes:
Pascal is now guaranteed to give one Pearl the first time you give him a Scallop for the day. This will either supplement a Mermaid Outfit / DIY Recipe, or another Pearl! That means potentially getting two Pearls!
Seasonal items like Snowflakes can now be sold at the drop-off box at Nook's Cranny.
You can purchase up to 50 Customization Kits at once from Nook's Cranny.
When changing the island flag at Resident Services, you can now revert it to the original design from when the island was created.
When changing the island tune at Resident Services, Isabelle will now suggest recommended melodies, including the original island tune.
Super Mario Bros. items can now be ordered from Nook Shopping without linking to a Nintendo Account.
You can now ask Leif to remove weeds when there are 30 or more weeds on your island, either on Harv’s Island or during his visits. The fee for asking Leif to remove weeds has also been reduced from 100,000 bells to 60,000 bells.
Unconfirmed Surprises
These are aggregated from user sites and have yet to be confirmed by the IGN staff. As soon as we've confirmed them, we'll move them up!
