ANC Intensifies Preparations for 2026 Local Government Elections

ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says the ANC is intensifying preparations ahead of the 2026 local government elections. Speaking to the SABC, Mbalula says the party is focused on getting its councillors and others in local government to address basic service delivery, including sewage, road repairs and other critical public services. Mbalula added that the election year must be “the decisive year to fix local government” and meet the public’s expectations on service delivery where the party governs. “We will look at the end of the year, how we have fared. The base was the rollcall, and the priorities on local government were supposed to, by now, if it was not because of the general council, bring you up to speed about the interventions we have made at the leadership level. Governance challenges at local government, we’ll be doing that after the lekgotla, from the time we launched the action plan and the work we have done with regard to local government,” explains Mbalula.
