TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Sovereign Wealth Fund Investment Agency Danantara is partnering with state-owned construction firm PT Pembangunan Perumahan (PT PP) Tbk to build temporary housing for communities affected by flooding in Aceh Tamiang and Aceh Utara, Aceh province. The collaboration focuses on providing emergency, temporary shelters to help residents resume daily activities during the early recovery phase. “The provision of temporary housing is an urgent necessity so that residents can safely and decently restart their lives during the transitional period,” PT PP Corporate Secretary Joko Raharjo said on Tuesday. Joko said the need for housing became more pressing after earlier efforts prioritized restoring access and rehabilitating basic infrastructure in coordination with the Ministry of Public Works. He noted that recovery must go beyond reopening roads and utilities to include secure living spaces for displaced communities. At the national level, Danantara plans to construct 15,000 temporary housing units in disaster-affected areas over the next three months. Under this program, PT PP will build 600 units each in Aceh Tamiang and Aceh Utara. In Aceh Tamiang, PT PP has completed 94 temporary housing units built on elevated platforms and ready for occupancy. In Aceh Utara, 118 units had been completed as of January 15, 2026. Joko said the units were designed as livable spaces equipped with essential facilities, including bathrooms, water reservoirs, musalla (prayer rooms), ablution and washing areas, pedestrian walkways, drainage systems, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) infrastructure. “These facilities are intended to meet the community’s basic needs at the start of the recovery period,” he said. According to Joko, construction has been carried out rapidly and in close coordination with the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises to ensure disaster response efforts are well aligned and tailored to conditions on the ground. “Recovery is not only about restoring access and infrastructure,” he said. “Communities also need a safe place to live so they can reorganize their daily activities. These temporary housing units are meant to serve as transitional spaces before medium- and long-term recovery begins.” Through the collaboration with Danantara, PT PP hopes to help affected residents navigate the initial recovery phase safely while supporting the gradual restoration of social and community life.
